Abercorn participates in Eco Friendly Activities
Mon 01 2011
Abercorn Care Home was delighted to be involved with our local children's nursery, Hollandbush, in their endeavour to be "eco friendly" at the end of last year. This involved having their mascot, a teddy called "Eco Ed" staying with us for a week to be shown the 'ropes' of a working 24 hour care home.
The residents were happy to take "Eco Ed" out in the minibus and to be photographed with him in various situations in and around the home. "Eco Ed" was introduced to the staff and had a chance to see how the care home runs on a daily basis from watching the nurses giving out the medications and meals to assisting the domestics with their daily duties.
The staff at Hollandbush were working with their children,
collecting items of confectionery and toiletries etc to be gifted
to our residents at Christmas. The children and their families put
their heart and soul into this and the results were phenomenal. We
had to make several trips in the minibus up to the nursery to
collect all the presents. The whole exercise resulted in some of
our residents being invited to Hollandbush on the 20th December to
see the children perform their dress rehearsal of their nativity
play and to have tea and cakes with them. Our residents loved the
children's costumes and singing and clapped along to encourage
them. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
"Eco Ed" enjoyed himself so much at Abercorn that he returned on
the 19th January to help celebrate one of our residents Mrs
Elizabeth Buchanan 100th birthday.

We can't thank the staff and head teacher, Margo enough for involving us in their project and hope this will remain a firm friendship between Abercorn and Hollandbush for years to come.
