Christmas Fund Raising at Dalby Court

Fri 01 2010

"Through out the year Dalby Court staff have supported the home with fundraising ie: fancy dress football matches, summer fete, Christmas Fayre etc. However nothing made me more proud of the staff that what they did on Christmas Eve.

I had been told that the husband of one of my neighbours was only expected to live until May due to a brain tumour and that they were struggling to afford Christmas presents for their children Ebony aged 9 and Eleanor aged 5.

When I arrived at work, Christmas Eve day, I started telling staff about the family, I suppose that everyone feels upset when they hear stories like this one especially when it is so close to home I think people realise that life is precious and even more so at this time of year, a time for giving.

The staff on shift and the resident's families came together and amazingly during that time raised approximately £100.00 for gifts for the children. We went out and bought the gifts and delivered them so that they were there for them on Christmas morning. The mother and father were overwhelmed so much so that they were in tears, tears of happiness.

Staff at Dalby Court

I would just like to reiterate that I am very proud and appreciative of the staff and all their hard work and fund raising for the residents. Also for giving the family concerned possibly one of the best Christmas's together, which will be precious and special to them in so many ways. The feeling, staff and I felt was the best ever, knowing we had helped a family in need.

This has led the staff to decide that they want to do this each year, either for a family that a staff member knows or to be given to Zoe's Place or James Cook Hospital children's ward.

Again to everyone at Dalby, Staff, Residents and Families a big thank you. You have done me proud and are the best supportive staff a manager could have."
