St. Josephs receives a thank you letter

Tue 02 2011

To: Allison Nellies and all the staff at St Josephs

When my wife, a stroke victim was ready to be discharged from hospital she hoped to return to her own home, unfortunately this was not permitted. When I told her that she would have to live in a nursing home at first she was very worried and cried. Prior to her discharge from Hospital I visited twelve nursing home situated within 10 miles our home. I had compiled a questionnaire and St.Josephs was the only one to tick all the boxes, and luckily had two empty beds. My wife was able to choose the bed she wanted.

Being a stroke victim my wife, Poh Yit, known to her friends as Julie, was unable to speak, or swallow and was paralysed on one side. Communication was limited her only response to questions could be a smile, tears, a nod or a shake of the head. Right from the start, the staff at St. Joesphs's treated Julie with dignity and made her feel very welcome. She was treated with considerable care, and made to feel as if she was part of the family. Without a doubt, after almost four years Julie considered all the staff to be her best friends.

When Julie suddenly died she was still treated with dignity. Our new friends, the staff, were very helpful and comforting to me. I would like to say that St. Joseph's must be the best Nursing Home in Essex and I would willingly recommend it to anyone who has to go into a nursing or care home.

Ladies and gentlemen of St.Joseph's you made the last four years of Julie's life feel special. I wish to extend my heart felt thanks to you all, if medals were issued to nurses and carers you should all receive one.

Thank you all
Brian Abel
